New way to test cancer drugs

A Purdue-patented pIMAGO nanopolymer was created (by W. Andy Tao). This nanopolymer can determine whether or not cancer drugs are effective. It will be manufactured by Tymora Analytical, which was founded by W. Andy Tao. The purpose of the nanopolymer is to indicate kinase activity. According to the article, kinase "is known to cause cancer cell formation". First, the titanium ions would bond with phosphorylated proteins. A solution of proteins and the Avidin-HRP protein would be added. Then, a substrate would react with Avidin-HRP. As a result, a color is formed. If the color is light, then the cancer drug is effective. If the color is dark, then the cancer drug is less effective. The world will be affected by this discovery. Companies that create drugs can save money for testing. Also, testing the cancer drugs will not be as complex. The event will have a positive effect.

Carbon capture with sawdust

Carbon material created by Antonio Fuertes and his colleagues can be used to remove CO2 emissions through a method called carbon capture. According to the article carbon capture is "the removal of CO2 from waste gases". The newly created carbon material is porous and made of sawdust. The pores are created when KOH activates a hydrochar. This event will have a positive effect. It serves as a step to reduce carbon dioxide emissions on our planet. The world will be affected by the amount of CO2 emitted in the air. Now, carbon capture will be simpler and more effective.

China bans whitening additives in flour
 In the month of May, using wheat flour whiteners will not be allowed in China. Examples of such whiteners are benzoyl peroxide and calcium peroxide. They can be harm the respiratory system if large amounts of it are consumed. As additives, they can't exceed 60 milligrams per kilogram. Flour manufacturers feel that the flour will not whiten effectively if they comply with the legal level. The Chinese Ministry of Health has removed licenses for the food additives since the beginning of March. Chen Zhu, the Health Minister, said that "we will stop adopting any unnecessary food additives". Banning the food additives can have positive and negative effects. Banning whitening additives can make wheat flour safer to ingest and use. However, flour manufacturers may continue to exceed the legal level of benzoyl peroxide and/or calcium peroxide. Research on food additives may decrease because of the ban.

Laser beam makes cells 'breathe in' water and potentially anti-cancer drugs

Andrei Sommer and his colleagues/researchers discovered that using (a) laser light can make a cell take in water and possibly medicine for cancer. According to an earlier study, laser light modifies the water's volume in cells, thus making the skin's appearance different. Andrei Sommer commented that pumping anti-cancer drugs can be pulled into a cell faster. Water inside a cell expands when the laser light shines on the cell. The water's volume breaks down when the light turns off. This makes the cell suck the water. This event will have a positive effect because it reveals a new way to kill cancer cells. The world will be affected by it because many people in the world have cancer. This event may be useful for therapy for cancer patients.

"First permanent anti-fog coating developed"

First permanent anti-fog coating developed

Dr. Gaetan Laroche  and researchers of Universite` Laval created the first anti-fog coating that is permanent (instead of temporary). According to Dr. Laroche, the fog on glasses "consists of tiny droplets of water". Four layers of molecules were applied to make a compound known as polyvinyl alcohol stick to the surface of glass and/or plastic. The chemical bonds make the coating strong and durable. The surface's optical properties will not change when the coating is applied. Unlike this new permanent anti-fog "product", other anti-fog products are applied repeatedly because they aren't able to resist washing. The world at large will be affected if companies, especially those pertaining to optics, use this coating in their products. This great event will have a positive effect because it is ideal for car windshields, eyeglasses, and/or anything that requires eye vision. This anti-fog coating can make vision much easier in foggy areas.
